“Plant Your Flag!” Tournament

THE MEMORIAL DAY, “Plant Your Flag!” tournament was held on Saturday, May 23 at the Tara Golf Course. Eighty-one golfers participated in the event that was organized by Janice Payne and Gary DeArment from the SLV Golf Committee. Each golfer who entered received a small American flag and a note which contained the number of strokes he/she was allotted for the tournament. The golfer’s total strokes equaled course par (72) plus their individual handicap. The object of the day’s play was to see how far each golfer could advance, and when the strokes ran out, the golfer was to plant his/her flag. The golfer who advanced the farthest was declared the winner.

The Women’s 18 hole winner was Mary Markle, followed by; Penny Chute, Nan Booth, Sandi Atols, Gail Cox, Diane Caccia, Susan Tempest, Becky Jones, and Jennifer Hunter.

The Men’s 18 hole winner was Chuck Uitto, followed by; Ron Meadows, Don Smallwood, Mike Hunter, Mike Payne, Harry Shelley, Bob Garner, AJ Piwowarski, and Gary DeArment.

The 9 hole winners were Lori Maines and George Sproule.
Thanks to Gareth, Shannon, and Sophia at the Golf Shop for their assistance, and to the Golf Operations staff for having the course in great condition.

The SLV Golf Committee will be sponsoring a similar “Plant Your Flag!” Tournament on July 4th.
